Privacy Policy

Yellow Glasses Chrome extension — Amnesty International Canada Francophone.

1. What the extension does

The extension lets you analyze a piece of text or a webpage to detect anti-immigration arguments and display sourced counter-arguments. It does not process any content until you explicitly click the extension icon.

2. What we process

When you trigger an analysis, the extension sends one of the following to our backend at https://changetavision-amnistie.ca/api/analyze:

  • The text currently selected on the page (if it is at least 10 characters long), or
  • The URL of the active tab, which our backend fetches and converts to text.

That text is then forwarded to Google Gemini (Google's generative AI API) to identify claims about immigration and match them against our curated counter-argument database.

3. What we do NOT do

  • No automatic analysis: it requires an explicit click from you.
  • No background reading or uploading of page content.
  • No storage of the text you submit. The /api/analyze endpoint is stateless: input goes to Gemini, results come back, nothing is persisted.
  • No local storage in the browser (the extension does not use chrome.storage).
  • No collection of browsing history, advertising identifiers, or user profiling.
  • No selling or sharing with commercial third parties.

4. Third-party processing

The submitted text is sent to:

  • Google Gemini API — Google may temporarily process the text under its Generative AI terms. No identifiers are attached to the request.

No other third party (ad network, third-party analytics, etc.) receives this data.

5. Permissions requested

  • activeTab — to read the URL of the current tab the moment you click the icon.
  • Content scripts on all sites — to inject the result modal into the page you are browsing.

The extension does not request browsing history, cookies, storage, or full tabs access.

6. Hosting and retention

  • Requests: transmitted over HTTPS to a server hosted in Canada (Cloudflare).
  • AI processing: Google Gemini (Google Cloud, per Google's regional policy).
  • Retention on our side: none. Google's processing is governed by its Generative AI privacy notice.

7. Your rights (Quebec Law 25, GDPR)

Because we do not retain any submitted content, we cannot retrieve, modify, or delete past analyses. You can stop sending data at any time by removing the extension via chrome://extensions.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest change. Significant changes will be announced via the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
